As I was saying, the episode with the latest stint had its downsides, way more than it’s upsides. I will not lie when I say that I liked the energy with all workers engrossed in making something out of their hours in that environment. Having said that, there was not much upliftment from the management either because of inexperience or because of willingness but one thing’s for sure, some of them balancing their way around looking good and getting work done were facing the most heat. If I have to put a pin on just one of these issues, i’d say it was the intent of the management to listen to or read into what any one person would have to say.
The situation with the workers reached a peak when two of them engaged in a physical tussle. Now, that’s not a scene anyone would want to witness in a bunch of presumed “well educated” individuals. This brawl was because of a chair! Not to be confused with THE CHAIR.
In a time when zoom has taken over our planet for meetings and communication, employees were questioned for their choices about the kind of social media websites they visit. Especially when there weren’t any strict guidelines conferred at the time of their joining. I also feel that if there were a few guidelines in place, why wasn’t it the case that employees where trained for them?
Another nuisance was the rotation with our reporting managers. I can only talk about myself when I say that in a span of three months or so I have had 3 reporting managers from different levels in the chain of command. Heck! One or two of them were from a different department altogether. It just wasn’t relevant to the designation I was working in. What does a business development professional has to do with a counselor role? Unless, aha!
The fact of the matter is that nobody cared for what needs attention and everybody was interested in other persons spread, so to speak. This is not an environment for work considering everything, wellbeing, health, stress, anxiety, love, peace, religious stances, political stances, interpersonal relationships, everything. I talked to a few others who joined alongside me. They all had a similar (reads same) experience.
To add to it there isn’t a place for sales or business development when it comes to counselling someone. It just doesn’t fit. I mean suggestion is one thing but forcing products down someones throat is an exceptional abhorrent play. It’s not unheard of, it just doesn’t hold much value to mislead a person in the long run.
In the past I have held a strong belief about education and that it doesn’t go to waste. I thing I agree to it till date. It doesn’t go to waste, it let’s me articulate my frustration is a way that is understandable.
The fact of the matter is that in any toxic setting elevation will be restricted, be it career or life. Having said that, for me, for us, it all comes down to to our goals, our visions, a sense of direction!
Are we ready to sacrifice for it?
If yes, what?
If no, why not?
